My name is Philip Pugh. I live in Neath, West Glamorgan, South Wales, UK. Following major surgery for a head injury in December 1997, a significant part of my life has been Art. I have been drawing since I was seven, for my own enjoyment. I did not pursue my desire any further until I was discharged from hospital in February 1998. I then started painting and drawing classes in the local YMCA. Following that, I continued my academic path by completing an access course in Llyn-Y-Bryn in Swansea Art College. I then completed a HND and BA in Jobswell College of fine art in Carmarthen.
I have exhibited many times all over Wales including Builth Wells, St. Clears, Port Talbot, Carmathen and Tregaron. I paint figures of humans or animals in a humanist, sad or melancholy way. I use colours in the paintings to bring out the feeling of the composition. I paint oil on canvas or wood, acrylic on canvas or wood and some times in crayon. Mostly I paint from the subconscious.
Most of the time, I start painting without having a final image in mind. The finished painting emerges as I work; this is the way that I work best.
