‘The Tall Tale’ – Llandough Primary School Speech and Language Unit work with an artist and writer to create a beautiful interactive book.
This autumn the children of Llandough Primary’s Speech and Language Unit had a fortnight of creativity with writer Susie Wilde and artist Heloise Godfrey. The children wrote and illustrated a book almost as big as themselves and this ‘Tall Tale’ was exhibited at the Washington Gallery. The young artists and writers grew in confidence and skill throughout the workshops and were extremely proud to see their work exhibited.


‘Speaking Out and Breaking Free’ – a drama project with young offenders in Parc Prison Bridgend.
This Winter a group of 18-21 year old inmates from Parc Prison Bridgend explored their creativity with experienced theatre professional Alison O’Connor from Valley and Vale Community Arts. The project boosted self-esteem and encouraged debate about the decisions we make and their consequences. The young men wrote, starred in and recorded a fabulous play that dealt with the issues around crime. They looked positively at making the right choices in the future.
‘My Dream’ – An Arts and Crafts Workshop with young people from Vale Family Support, National Children’s Home.
Ceramic artist Felicity Crump is currently working with the children of Vale Family Support to produce art work for an exhibition at the Washington Gallery based on the theme of ‘dreams’. The arts, crafts and ceramic work will be displayed at a big event at the Gallery on the 30th April 2008.
Animation Workshop – Penarth Youth Project
An animation is currently being completed by ‘Community Helps Itself’, the artists who have been working with the young people of the Penarth Youth Project. The children have written, drawn and recorded their own creation. This fabulous film explores the ‘monstrous’ effect pollution can have on our world through a story about a polluting beast! The Film will be screened at the Education Exhibition on 30th April 2008.
‘In the Undergrowth’ – Metal workshops with excluded young people at Amelia Trust Farm
This spring metalwork artist Cindy Ward is working with the young people of Amelia Trust Farm to create unusual and beautiful characters and shapes in the trees around the farm’s Amphitheatre. They have been learning design and welding skills and all the young people are very excited to attend the grand unveiling in April.
