Glyn Hughes: A Retrospective
11th January – 6th February 2008
A retrospective exhibition covering the last fifty years of Glyn Hughes’ career, the noted North Wales-born artist whose impact has been strongest in his adopted country of Cyprus. This is the first international tour of his work and has been organised by Wrexham Arts Centre.
Glyn Hughes’ practice is not bound by strict adherence to medium or style, but is influenced particularly by the light and landscape of his adopted Cyprus.
His work has been shaped by circumstance, the most obvious being the events in Cyprus during the 1970’s, yet his work is not overtly political but instead comments on the events that have taken place around him. Hughes manages to remain true to the work while being neither passive or forcing his opinions on the viewer. As he aptly puts it “…being there and not being political.”
A publication, Glyn Hughes, accompanies the exhibition. Copies of the book are on sale during the show.
